Music RRocks!

The Round Rock Symphony has been committed to education and community engagement since our second season, when we first invited string students from all 10 Round Rock ISD middle schools to play side-by-side on stage with our professional musicians. RRISD middle school string students will perform with the orchestra for the fifth consecutive season during our April 5, 2014 concert at Prete Plaza.

Our outreach activities, collectively called Music RRocks!, also currently include an instrument petting zoo for local preschoolers and educational presentations by RRS musicians or visiting guest artists in local elementary schools. We also invite inquiries from local healthcare and senior living facilities so that we can share the healing and soothing benefits of music. If you are interested in scheduling a petting zoo or a musician visit to a school or other facility, please contact RRS here.

The centerpiece of Music RRocks! is a free string program offered within the ASPIRE after-school remediation and enrichment program at two Title I RRISD elementary schools. Music RRocks! orchestra students receive free loaner instruments and expert instruction and may enroll as early as second grade. Recent neuroscience research has shown that learning to play an instrument has lifelong benefits in terms of brain function, in addition to being enjoyable and offering social engagement. The RRS is devoted to giving young children early access to the benefits of music that will pay dividends in their future.

It is our great pleasure and privilege to provide many Music RRocks! activities at no charge, and funding from public and private grants helps us to do so. However, many grants require matching funds from other sources. We invite you to add to our matching capacity for education and community engagement grants by making a donation or becoming a corporate sponsor today.
